Lot of people tend to forget what hip-hop is all about. Originally it was the music of the oppressed black people; it spoke about freedom and rights. It spoke about revolution… but like many other genres money overtook everything and hip-hop was commercialized. Of course there were a lot of great hip-hop artists that spoke not about politics and freedom, but pioneers like NWA and Public Enemy really did their part in spreading the word. Today more and more people join the urban culture just because of the designs and music without supporting any ideas or even having political ideas. The protest nearly died, but still there are some people and crews that support the original game. One of such crews founded DTA Clothing (which stands for Don’t Trust Anyone) a brand that puts message and protest on top of their products.
DTA was formed by a group of friends in 1991 and existed in various forms since that time. For some time it existed together with the Rouge Status brand (another clothing brand that has provocative designs as their main weapon), even now they have the same street team, but DTA is a stand alone brand. As clothing line DTA offers everything from hoodies to accessories, with two of their main features – provocative designs and slogans and great quality. DTA tees are probably the most provocative if we look at few examples: one t-shirt mimics the USA Today logo, another is almost a military call for joining the ranks of DTA and finally one more shows that DTA is watching you. In addition to this DTA Clothing also exploits the topic of weapons, aggression and government control, basically it touches all the aspects that are important to modern conscious youth.
It is great that more and more people involved in urban culture today tend to support the protesting brands and more and more companies choose the way of the free speech. This is a tendency that would definitely please the pioneers of the genre and all the people that still carry the torch. Can’t say that DTA is too extreme in their designs, but in times like these when we have obviously lying governments, crisis and total paranoia maybe it is the right time to show your protest by wearing it as a tee. And DTA is one of the best candidates for style with a message!

Addict
Addict Clothing is a brand founded in 1996 with a goal to produce men’s street wear for people involved in urban culture. Now fourteen years after due to their successful combination of great design, style functionality and quality, they managed to become one of the most popular urban brands in the UK and also gain worldwide recognition. Another strong side of the brand is cooperation. They work together with UK’s most influential designers, typographers and artists - Swifty, She One, Mr Jago, C-Law, creating unique British flavored clothing that will please every fan of hip-hop or graffiti. Also they cooperate with other brands like One True Saxon, X-Large and G-Shock, making special limited editions for their fans. The company is still independent from both major corporations and any kind of hip style. It lives and breathes with the streets not forgetting to support young musicians and artists involved into underground culture. But let’s take a look at their clothing.
The great thing about Addict is that it covers most of the urban styles in their clothing lines. If you roam through their catalogue you will find vintage track jackets, DJ clothing, gamer clothing, sport clothing and even camouflage. Addict offers everything from jackets and denim to underwear and in addition to this a wide range of accessories like bags and belts. As usual the t-shirts and hoodies carry the most interesting and creative design ideas, but other clothing like caps and polo shirts also looks just awesome! Basically nothing created by Addict looks bad. Of course all clothing is high quality and what is very important fits together allowing to create mixed styles with Addict Clothing only. If you look at the modern urban brands you will see that Addict is one of the first candidates able to fill your closet with great and stylish clothing. In addition to this the brand is fairly casual and can fit in any situation, yet it manages to keep its street flavor and a twist of underground art.
Just like with many other companies the success Addict Clothing is base on hard work and great dedication. People who founded and helped developing their company are dead serious about the overall style and stick to the origins of urban clothing. It is still more of an art company than a clothing enterprise and it allows Addict to please most of the people involved into urban style with their designs.
